G4S has suspended nine members of staff at the Brook House, Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre following the publication of a report expressing concerns about the treatment of detainees and allegations by the BBC's Panorama programme.

G4S has suspended nine members of staff at the Brook House, Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre (IRC) which is one of two the integrated security services giant operates in the United Kingdom, following concerns about service quality raised in a recent inspection report and allegations of "mocking, abusing and assaulting" behaviour towards detainees from undercover investigators for the BBC's Panorama programme.

The suspensions are the latest of a series of incidents centring on IRCs - purpose-built facilities where would-be-immigrants may be detained indefinitely pending the outcome of deportation proceedings against them.

In January, a Polish national became the second detainee to die within a month at the Morton Hall detention centre in Lincolnshire which is operated for the UK Border agency by the Prison Service following his suspected suicide. And a murder enquiry was launched in December 2016 after a detainee died at the Mitie-operated Colnbrook IRC near Heathrow Airport.

G4S itself is no stranger to controversy following its bungled London 2012 Olympics security contract which resulted in allegations of incompetence after it admitted hundreds of staff were ill-equipped to provide manned guarding and security services at the Olympic site, and also admitted to failures in internal recruitment vetting procedures.

In June 2016 the UK Home Office also announced it would take over the running of the Medway Secure Training Centre from the company after police announced a criminal investigation into years of alleged historic abuse of inmates by staff at the juvenile prison.
