STRABAG Re-Awarded German Public Safety Digital Radio Network (Digitalfunk BOS) FM Contract

Facilities Management, Contract Awards, Property Management, EMEA
STRABAG Property and Facility Services GmbH (STRABAG PFS) will continue to undertake technical facilities management (FM) at German Public Safety Digital Radio Network (Digitalfunk BOS) locations in Baden-Württemberg, following a public tender process.

STRABAG PFS has been maintaining the Baden-Württemberg radio locations of the police, fire brigade and emergency services for six years, and the new four-year contract which commences on 1 July 2018, includes an option for annual extensions for a period of up to two years.

Under the agreement, STRABAG PFS will be responsible for safeguarding and maintaining the fabric of 655 base station locations, 148 radio relay locations and four server locations to ensure fault-free operation. Specific services include the provision of maintenance inspections, elimination of faults and other repairs; and the provision of infrastructure services including grounds maintenance and pruning (which will be undertaken by STRABAG PFS affiliate, DIW Instandhaltung GmbH).

STRABAG PFS is also currently responsible for facilities management at Public Safety Digital Radio locations in other German states.

About The German Public Safety Digital Radio Network (Digitalfunk BOS)

The German Public Safety Digital Radio Network is the largest radio network worldwide that is based on the international TETRA standard (Terrestrial Trunked Radio). With this network, police officers and others have access to a modern and versatile communication medium. The technology makes it possible to communicate across organisations throughout the country, which simplifies the execution of complex deployment scenarios – especially in the event of crises or catastrophes.

The German Public Safety Digital Radio Network comprises more than 4,600 base stations in all areas of Germany (as of March 2018). According to the Federal Agency for Public Safety Digital Radio (BDBOS), this ensures radio coverage for 99% of Germany by area.

Some 50 million radio messages are broadcast via the network every month.
