All set for the new IET Wiring Regs!
Experts at Megger have looked carefully at the new edition of the regulations, which was issued on 2 July 2018 and comes into force on 1 January 2019, and they confirm that if you have Megger test equipment that meets the requirements of the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations, it will be equally satisfactory for the 18th Edition – you won’t need to make any changes or additions.
“We know that when a new edition of the wiring regulations is announced, contractors and electricians are always understandably concerned about whether the changes will mean they’ve got to buy new test equipment,” said Peter Wade of Megger. “In this case, we’re happy to be able to put their minds at rest, and state categorically that if you have Megger test equipment, it will continue to do everything necessary for testing and certification in line with the latest regulations.”
If you are nevertheless thinking of investing in new test equipment, it will be worthwhile for you to take into account the changes introduced in the 18th Edition. These include, for example, a new requirement to provide RCD/RCBO protection for circuits supplying luminaires. This means you’ll have an even greater need for reliable non-trip loop testing, which is one of the many benefits offered by the new and innovative loop test technology used in Megger’s latest MFT1741 multifunction installation tester.
If you invest in this ground-breaking instrument, you’ll also find that it offers two-wire loop testing, which is particularly useful on lighting circuits where no neutral is readily available, and a unique ‘confidence meter’ that saves time on loop tests, even when you’re working on noisy circuits. And, of course, it has all of the other functions you need for testing and certifying installations quickly, conveniently and confidently, combined with the exceptional reliability and performance for which Megger instruments are well known.
