665-Mile Charity Bike Ride

In September, a team from Vacherin will cycle to the original 'home of Vacherin’ on the Swiss-French border in support of social enterprise, Luminary Bakery, which empowers women to reach their potential.


The journey which will start at Vacherin’s headquarters in Hatton Garden, London on Saturday 8th September, will finish at the Museum of Vacherin in the Jura region of Eastern France on Friday 14th September and coincide with the the release of the company's first "cheese of the season".


As part of the ‘Le Tour De Vacherin’, Vacherin is hoping to raise £15,000 for Luminary Bakery which ithas been supporting for over a year. A social enterprise based in east London, Luminary Bakery offers opportunities for women who have experienced social or economic disadvantage to build their skills and improve their futures. 


Over the seven days, a group of nine Vacherin colleagues will average almost 100 miles per day. The team taking part in the challenge includes; Phil Roker, owner | managing director, Simon MacFarlane, director and head of operations, Tom Rule, director | operations, Ula Bardovskaja, general manager, Paul Matthews, head chef, Lewis Linley, sous chef, Simon William Smith, general manager, Lawrence Newsham, head chef and Hamish Thorn, catering manager.


The ride consists of seven stages, including stops in Brittany, Loire and Burgundy, and is going to be a demanding challenge for those involved – facing mountainous terrain and strenuous mile-targets. To assist with the cycle, professional cycle tour company, Velocamp, will be coordinating and supporting the tour.


The charity adventure takes place just months after the release of the annual ‘Vacherin Cares’ report, listing the company’s continuous efforts to maintain their impressive CSR and sustainability results. The full report can be viewed here.
