Kier Group has been appointed to Western Power Distribution’s framework to deliver planned and reactive works across the East and West Midlands. Achieving success in five of the 12 areas including 6,7,8 & 9 in the West and area 3 in the East, Kier will carry out excavation, cable laying and reinstatement works, including a 24/7 reactive service with an annual value of approximately £30 million.

Starting in September 2018, the framework agreement is for an initial three years, with the opportunity to extend it by two years. Kier will play a pivotal role in supporting Western Power Distribution’s 11kV to 33kV network that serves five million[1] homes across the Midlands, spanning Gloucester to Coventry and Kidderminster.

Barry McNicholas, executive director of Kier Utilities, comments: “Our collaborative and longstanding partnership with Western Power Distribution across the South West region is testament to the trusted service that we provide. We are thrilled to have secured a place on WPD’s two Midlands frameworks meaning our skills and experience can be utilised in new areas of the country.

“This is a great example of how we have effectively blended the strengths and expertise of our teams to secure a new pipeline of work and we look forward to providing planned and reactive services to millions of homes and businesses across the Midlands.”

Simon Havill from Western Power Distribution commented: “We have built a strong reputation for delivering a reliable and safe electricity supply to homes and businesses, while offering the highest quality customer service. We look forward to working with Kier in the Midlands to help us maintain our high performance standards.”

Kier has a longstanding relationship with Western Power Distribution, having successfully provided similar services to the south-west since 2004. Over the last year, Kier has laid over 450km of cable in the region, responded to nearly 4959 ‘fault’ call outs  and conducted nearly 7,000 planned jobs.
