Adding Social Value Through Hard FM

Contract Awards, EMEA, Service Provider News
GRAHAM Group has been appointed as single-point hard FM services provider to the Place Partnership and will returns 'social value' to communities in six local authority areas in the West Midlands under a novel service delivery model.

The four-year contract award follows a competitive tender process for the provision of building fabric maintenance and HVAC/related electromechanical repair services.

Place Partnership, which was established by amalgamating the facility and property management activities of six local authorities, operates as a 'social enterprise'. The government imposes strict caps on the profits public sector organisations can earn from commercial activities, and social enterprises (a particular type of corporate structure in the UK) are required to demonstrate their operations add 'social value by delivering financial, community or environmental improvements.

Under the terms of the agreement, GRAHAM has additionally committed to providing some £7 million of social value as a result of engagement with the local workforce and supply chain.

Announcing the contract award, Andrew Pollard, Place Partnership managing director, said:

"We are naturally very proud of our association with GRAHAM. The company has significant operational expertise and will be able to generate real added value and cost efficiencies for our customers through service quality and strategic amalgamation of lower value, more management intensive contracting.

"The vision and value demonstrated by GRAHAM through the tendering process made them the outstanding choice and we look forward to a strong relationship in delivering the very best quality facilities management services to our clients.

"Our imperative is to improve the quality of the buildings that we service, enhancing our customer’s workplaces, driving enhanced levels of productivity and being recognised as the regional facilities management supplier of choice.”

Brendan Devlin, managing director of the facilities management division at GRAHAM, added:

"This relationship with Place Partnership is an ideal amalgamation of our expertise in managing large-scale service delivery and their understanding and needs of their clients and the regional marketplace.

"We are engaging local or existing suppliers and have already hosted an engagement day which saw around 100 companies expressing an interest in joining us. This is an excellent start to our relationship with Place Partnership and through their understanding of the region and established links to the local supply chain and employment networks, we are looking forward to a prosperous working relationship."
