Mark Irwin to Succeed Kevin Craven as CEO of Serco UK & Europe

Appointments, EMEA, APAC, Service Provider News, United Kingdom
Serco has appointed Mark Irwin, CEO of Asia Pacific, to succeed Kevin Craven who steps down as Chief Executive Officer – UK & Europe in the autumn.

Before joining Serco seven years ago, Irwin worked in Asia for a private-equity backed business and in the United States for GE. He has managed the group's businesses in Justice & Immigration, Defence, Citizens Services and Health, and is credited with establishing strong relations with Government clients.

Irwin's current role as CEO of Asia Pacific will be filled by Peter Welling, who is currently managing director of Serco's Australian Citizen Services from 1 August 2020.

The group has also announce the promotion of Anthony Kirby, who joined Serco from Compass Group as HR Director in 2017, to the  "reinstated" position of Group Chief Operating Officer (a post previous incumbent, Ed Casey, resigned in 2017).

Announcing the changes, Rupert Soames, Serco Group Chief Executive, said: "These moves are entirely consistent with our ambition to be the best-managed business in our sector, and will give renewed impetus and urgency to Serco as we continue to transform and grow, focus on developing the capabilities and capacity of our people and businesses, increase our efficiency and productivity, and continue to deliver superb public services which are valued by our Government customers and make a positive difference to the lives of our service-users."
