Army to Handover Covid-19 Mobile Testing to Mitie

Contract Awards, EMEA, Service Provider News, United Kingdom
Mitie will assume responsibility from the British army for nineteen Covid-19 mobile testing units (MTU) from the end of July.

The facility services provider currently supports Covid-19 testing at fixed "Local Testing Centres" in Ashford, Bournemouth, Deeside, Ebbw Vale, Gloucester, Llandudno, Newbury, Salisbury and Penrith. Services to be provided under the new contract include driving MTUs to testing locations and erecting, and operating, key equipment - including gazebos, safety signage, and traffic management tools to ensure lanes for drivers and people arriving on foot operate smoothly at MTUs.

Some 400 employees are being assigned to the new contract, increasing the total number of Mitie staff deployed by the group in Covid-19 testing activities to 1,400.

Simon Venn, Chief Government & Strategy Officer for Mitie, comments: "We remain committed to supporting the UK in the fight against COVID-19. In taking on the management of these Mobile Testing Units, in addition to our existing Testing Centre Sites, we’re proud to be helping local communities identify and respond to potential Coronavirus outbreaks to prevent further spread.

"These initiatives are testament to the amazing achievements that are possible thanks to effective public and private sector collaboration."
