Committing to Workplace Racial Inclusion

Corporate Social Responsibility, EMEA, Service Provider News, United Kingdom, Ireland

Atalian Servest has committed to uphold the UK's Race at Work Charter as part of a broader commitment to racial equality under its CHROMA diversity and inclusion (D&I) platform.

The charter is a government initiative, launched in partnership with Business in the Community (BITC) and has been designed to improve outcomes for black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) employees in the UK.

Atalian Servest has pledged to take active steps towards building a culture that champions equality, diversity and inclusion. The charter will also help to provide a greater understanding of how to manage and mitigate racial harassment and bullying in the workplace.

Under The Race at Work Charter, the company will adhere to five fundamental principles to ensure the business breaks down barriers, and champions BAME recruitment and progression. These include:

  1. Appointment of an Executive Sponsor(s) for race, ethnicity & faith – to provide visible leadership to drive actions such as setting targets for ethnic minority representation.
  2. Capture ethnicity data and publicise progress – a crucial step for establishing a baseline and measuring progress on ethnicity pay differentials.
  3. Commit at board level to zero tolerance of harassment and bullying – a commitment from the top is needed to achieve change.
  4. Make clear that supporting equality in the workplace is the responsibility of all leaders and managers – ensuring that performance objectives for leaders and managers cover their responsibilities to support fairness for all colleagues.
  5. Take action that supports ethnic minority career progression –  will include mentoring, reverse mentoring and sponsorship within the business.

Laura Ryan, Legal Director and Matt Chapman, Chief Marketing & Development Officer, have been appointed as UK & Ireland board sponsors of Atalian Servest's Race, Ethnicity and Faith network which is a cornerstone of the new CHROMA platform. They will ensure all colleagues are represented and heard at board level.

Commenting on her appointment, Ryan said: "I want to create a truly inclusive culture that allows our colleagues to have their voices heard. Our working environment should be one in which we all feel confident and empowered to be proud of who we are. I am committed to championing race, ethnicity and faith diversity and inclusion in our business."

"Signing up to the Race at Work Charter is part of our sustained journey and commitment to understanding the challenges our BAME colleagues face. We are focused on taking action to create an inclusive workplace with no barriers."
