Funds Raised for Families with Sick Children
ISS employees have run and cycled for 24 hours to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). The charity provides vital resources and compassionate care to children and their families during difficult times. This includes housing for families with sick children admitted to the hospital for a longer period, allowing the family to stay together.
The theme of this year’s charity race was ‘home is where your heart is’, with participants following a heart-shaped route around the Netherlands. In the relay race, 10 ISS bicycle riders covered 500 km in 24 hours, and 10 ISS runners covered 200 km in 24 hours.
In addition, ISS catering services served food and drinks for 1200 participants and team coaches along the route, and also handled the catering facilities at the start and finish line at the famous Domplein in Utrecht, where thousands of people came together to support the race participants. The ISS catering employees were present at three different locations and provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the race participants, as part of ISS’ charitable contribution to the event.
Among the participants was ISS Netherlands Country Manager, Kees Stroomer, who said:
“We feel it is very important to participate in events like these. Especially the HomeRide/HomeRun event, because this is about the future of our children. Especially sick children need our support and warmth.”
ISS’ participation in the race resulted in a charitable contribution of EUR 28,000, equivalent to 500 overnight stays for families in Ronald McDonald Houses. ISS Netherlands has been an active sponsor of the event since 2014, though 2017 is the first year in which ISS has participated with a sports team.
The event raised a total of about EUR 1 million for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
