Protecting a National Theatre

An intelligent Kentec life safety control panel and COSMO PSIM+ software are protecting a historic National Theatre in Lisbon, Portugal.

The theatre at hundreds of different shows and performances each year, including plays, concerts and dances.

COSMO PSIM+ software who were approached by the theatre which hosts audiences of up to 1,000 people to create a centralised, user-friendly control, automatic fire door opening and monitoring system for more than 300 fire detection devices on nine floors selected Kentec as the project’s technology partner.

Syncro AS is a multi-protocol panel that is fully scalable and network enabled for integration into larger systems.  Fernando Santos, the director of development and integration at software company COSMO PSIM+ software, says: “This project posed some key challenges as the theatre puts on a number of performances and shows that use smoke and/or flames as part of their act. Kentec’s Syncro AS control panel is able to accommodate these challenges, while its large graphical display and ergonomic button and indicator layout make it simple and straightforward to understand.”

Alarms and warnings are now reported on a single panel, permitting faster and more accurate responses to potentially life-threatening events and an I/O controller has been used to supply the door opening capabilities requested by the project owners.

Kevin Swann, Kentec’s managing director, describes Syncro AS as a “perfect fit” for the COSMO PSIM+ software which has been used, adding: “Syncro AS offers great flexibility and its clear display and controls make it easy to use for installers and our customers.”
