Chubb Showcases Lockdown Procedures
Carrier subsidiary Chubb Fire & Security will be showcasing lockdown technology at the Schools and Academies Show 2019 at ExCeL London from 3-4 April.
“Lockdown” is defined as a procedure for quickly restricting access and egress to all or part of a site or building using physical measures in response to external or internal threats by the National Counter Terror Security Office (NaCTSO).
Larger sites and increasing student numbers have led councils across the UK to insist schools under their control have adequate lockdown procedures in place, and one of the key challenges facing schools is the time it takes to communicate an emergency when simultaneously managing a developing situation in a way that ensures student safety.
Chubb’s solution uses wireless technology supplied by sister company EMS to facilitate rapid deployment of lockdown procedures. Teachers and staff are issued with discreet, wireless handsets that are configured to connect to alarms, access control systems and gate mechanisms, according to each school’s needs. When activated, handsets triggers a pre-determined ‘cause and effect’ plan which includes activation of visual and audio emergency alarms.
Mark Pettit, Chubb’s director of strategy and business development, believes the exhibition is an opportunity to demonstrate the company’s commitment to helping educational establishments address challenges facing them, and says:
“There is a balance between providing the utmost in safety and providing a warm and welcoming environment,” he said. “Also, security, or a lack of it can impact Ofsted ratings, and there are no hard and fast rules about what security is required, rather a solution is tailored to the specific environment.
“Fire is also a critical consideration for any school, as fires disrupt the education of thousands of children annually. A well-maintained, effective fire solution is key, and particularly popular is wireless technology that causes minimal disruption during installation.”
Chubb will also showcase fire risk assessment and security solutions from Stand 912 in the Building Estates and Management Zone.
