Setting New Standards for Collection Care

Science Museum Group (SMG) has appointed Kier to construct a new collection management facility at its National Collections Centre in Wroughton, Wiltshire.

Designed with public access in mind, the new 280,000 sq ft facility will transform the storage and management of more than 300,000 items.

Work on the site is scheduled for completion in early 2020.

Commenting on the contract, Mark Pausey, managing director of Kier Construction Central, said:

“We are thrilled to be working with the Science Museum Group to deliver this innovative project in Wiltshire, enabling increased public access to thousands of items that are not currently on display. This is another exciting scheme for Kier as we continue to expand our position in this sector.”

Programme Director for the Science Museum Group, Sian Williams, said:

“This new facility will transform public access to one of the most significant scientific collections in the world, and we can’t wait to welcome public tours, research and school visits from 2023.”
