MedStar Health Contract for Sodexo
MedStar Health which operates more than 120 community entities in the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area, has awarded an integrated food services contract for ten hospitals to Sodexo.
Under the agreement, Sodexo will enhance and expand patient and retail dining services, provide 24-hour dining, catering and vending, and introduce a mobile ordering app supported by enhanced kiosk and phone food ordering options.
The French multinational company will also oversee MedStar’s transition from “cook-chill” processes which rapidly chill food for short-term storage to a “cook-serve” process under which food is cooked and served immediately.
Discussing the contract, Michael Curran, MedStar Health executive vice president and chief administrative officer, said:
“At MedStar Health we want to make our patients and visitors feel as comfortable and well cared for as possible. That’s why we are enhancing our food services program, with hot meals cooked on site and served immediately, and expanded menu choices and ordering options.
Jennifer Akerly, Regional Vice President, Sodexo Healthcare North America, said:
“This is an important initiative to create the best possible experience for our patients and guests – and our associates as well.”
