Stop Food Waste Day 2019

Compass Group yesterday observed Stop Food Waste Day, a global event first introduced in 2017 by the foodsevice company’s U.S. subsidiary to encourage caterers and consumers to reduce volumes of discarded food.

The event which is supported by high-profile Compass clients, including Google and HSBC, as well as local charities and community groups, focuses on raising awareness about measures which can be taken to prevent unnecessary wastage of unconsumed and unsold food, and its ‘recovery’ through donations to people in need or as a result of recycling.

Activities included a ‘Culinary Challenge’ designed to encourage chefs to share their top tips for managing food waste in the kitchen, which was won by Tarisa Reid, a Chef de Partie with Compass subsidiary, Restaurant Associates London.
