Supporting Mitie’s Clean Van Commitment

Pod Point is supporting Mitie’s commitment to electrify 20 per cent of its smaller vehicle fleet within two years by installing 800 chargepoints at Mitie and client locations, and at the homes of Mitie employees.

Transition to an Electric Fleet

Mitie, which employs 54,000 people across the UK and operates a fleet of more than 3,500 compact vans and cars, selected Pod Point because of its ability to offer a fully managed chargepoint service that includes initial site surveys and design, chargepoint supply and installation, and account management.

Pod Point has also developed an app that tracks charging activity at a driver’s home and en-route – which was a key factor in Mitie’s decision.

New electric vehicles (EV) will be deployed into Mitie and client depot locations, and allocated to employees who take their vehicle home after work.

Simon King, Head of Fleet and Procurement for Mitie, said:

“With our commitment to switch at least 20 per cent of our fleet to electric by 2020, we know we have a challenge ahead.

“Changing behaviour is a key roadblock, so having access to adequate charging infrastructure, installed in the right places, will be vital to ensuring we can meet this challenge, so our drivers can plug-in and charge, wherever they are.

“Pod Point’s smart chargepoints and ability to offer a fully managed service offers us peace of mind that our drivers will be able to charge where and when they need to, ensuring our transition to electric is a smooth one.”

Erik Fairbairn, Pod Point founder and CEO, said:

“Mitie is showing real industry leadership with its commitment to going electric and we’re delighted to have been chosen as the company’s EV charging partner.”
