Protecting Commercial Property from Water Damage

Life safety products manufacturer Vimpex is marketing a configurable water leak detection system which is designed to protect commercial property from water damage which is estimated at around £800 million annually in the United Kingdom.

The Vimpex Hydrosense system incorporates Hydro-Cryer voice sounders to protect areas where water ingress could seriously damage electrical, communication and computer networks. It continuously monitors for water leaks and includes a 72 hour battery standby in the event of power failure.

In its latest warning, the UK Environment Agency urges risk managers to ‘prepare for the worst’ in countering the impact of rising temperatures which are forecast to increase by up to four degrees Centigrade by 2100.

The financial sector is particularly vulnerable to losses, with Data Centre outages costing £12,000 per minute on average and translating into hourly losses for the London Stock Exchange of £4.5 million and Credit Card Clearance-related losses of around £1.8 million.

Extra costs typically arising from flooding include relocation expenses, increased employment costs, and loss of profits.
