Cisco Selects Spie for Lifecycle Replacement Contract

SPIE Group subsidiary, SPIE UK, has won a four-month contract to undertake replacement works in the live building environment of Cisco’s UK flagship office in Bedfont Lakes, Feltham.

The contract – the first SPIE has carried out for Cisco, encompasses plant replacement in 3no live buildings. The work is being carried out as the plant has been in place for nineteen years and requires an upgrade.

The Schedule of Works includes a full replacement of existing boilers, including new flue dilution systems. SPIE will also be responsible for the replacement of chilled water (CHW) pumps, replacement of kitchen AHU and extractor fan, the installation of a new hot water supply system to serve the kitchen, the replacement of the heat pump that serves the atrium underfloor heating in the largest of three buildings, and the installation of new AC units serving the Client Product Demonstration Lab and the Comms Room. SPIE will also complete a Building Management Systems (BMS) upgrade, including the installation of new ADX server and replacement of existing network control & automation engines to meet the requirements of the Metasys Revision 10 software.

As with any works that need to be carried out in a live building environment, it is necessary to undertake the upgrade works with minimal interruption to the client. To overcome this challenge in the common areas and the kitchen specifically, SPIE will execute the works over three weekends to minimise the kitchen shut down period. In order to successfully complete the contract, SPIE will also need to liaise effectively with a variety of stakeholders. For example, because the works impact the external aesthetic of the building, they will be required to obtain planning permission from the local authority as well as the office landlord.

Discussing the project, Steven Farmer, Divisional Managing Director for SPIE UK, said:

“We are excited to embark on this new relationship with Cisco and hope that these works open up additional opportunities to work together in the future. SPIE engineer, manage and optimise smart spaces and places, leveraging emerging technologies for our customers that improve where people work, learn and live, so it’s fantastic to work for another organisation that is also helping to enhance people’s lives using the latest technologies.”

Archie Roy, Capital Programme Manager, Workplace Resources at Cisco, added:

“It’s clear that SPIE has an incredibly specialist team who are able to deliver against our precise requirements, while ensuring that our employees can continue with their day-to-day activities. We have been really impressed with the cost efficiency and high standard of service received so far and look forward to seeing the final results.”
