EDUcatering Excellence 2019 Awards
Compass Group education business Chartwells UK is celebrating after winning two top awards at the 10th EDUcatering Excellence Awards, held at the Royal Garden Hotel on Tuesday 8th October.
Now in their tenth year, the awards recognise individuals and companies that excel in the schools meals sector
The top accolade of Contract Caterer of the Year was won by Chartwells UK.Â
The company recently announced a reduction of sugar usage across its dessert menu in primary and secondary schools by 20 per cent ahead of Public Health England’s 2020 deadline, and rolled out its ‘Nudge, Nudge’ scheme to drive healthier choices using a scientific approach – in addition to introduced a “Zest Everyday Brilliance” initiative that focusing on best practice and showcasing food to get students excited about eating.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Richard Taylor, managing director of Chartwells UK, said:
“We’re absolutely delighted to have won Contract Caterer of the Year at the EDUcatering Excellence Awards. Nutrition and wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do and we’ve demonstrated this throughout the year by introducing some really innovative and special campaigns into our schools. Taking home this huge accolade is very rewarding and means our hard work has paid off – thank you to all the judges for recognising our work.”
Peter Burt, General Manager of Chartwells Independent which provides catering for independent (private) schools and received the EDUcatering Excellence Awards Independent School Caterer of the Year award, added:
“This award means so much to me and the whole team at St Faith’s. We’ve done so much over the last year: putting on themed events, introducing new foods, working on dishes for specialist diets to receive accreditations, running cookery clubs and we’ve done an amazing job reducing food waste by 40 per cent.
