Wärtsilä Joins Leesman+ Elite

Wärtsilä’s is the first company in Finland to receive Leesman+ certification after its Helsinki campus scored above 70 Lmi on Leesman’s standardised performance scale which captures employee feedback on how effectively their workplace supports their work.

Only 5 per cent of buildings (4,421) have been awarded Leesman+ certification which is regarded by many organisations as the de facto standard for workplace performance.

The campus in the Länsisatama neighbourhood of Helsinki opened last year following the relocation of 500 employees, and features company-branded meeting rooms, a conference centre, an experience centre, project areas, silent areas, a dedicated space for partner innovation, a large communal café, and open spaces for collaborative working. It is designed to facilitate flexible working by replacing individual desk spaces with activity areas.

Pre- and post- occupancy  surveys confirmed the relocation had significantly improved the employee workplace experience, with the new campus achieving a post-occupancy score of 71.6 Lmi – a full 9.1 points above the global average.

Additionally, 28 per cent more of employees based at the campus indicate they are more proud, today to show their workplace to visitors, with 28 per cent indicating the new facilities better support productivity, and 26 per cent agreeing they find their workplace more enjoyable than before.

Atte Palomäki, Wärtsilä’s Executive Vice President for Communication, Branding and Marketing, says:

“The pre-occupancy study offered us a good understanding of things we needed to achieve or change, and the results were very much in line with employee feedback.

“Targets for the relocation project were about supporting the ongoing transformation in the company, improving the employee and visitor experience, and living our purpose – enabling sustainable societies with smart technology.”
