Welsh Hospital Curtain Wall Contract
Wrightstyle is to design and install advanced glazing for the £350 million Grange University Hospital, in Llanfrechfa, near Cwmbran – one of the largest NHS projects ever seen in Wales.
Construction of the 560-bed, 55,000 square metre facility which began in 2017 is scheduled for completion early in 2021, when the hospital is expected to transform health service delivery for over 600,000 people across Gwent.
The new hospital will deal with all major emergencies as well as treating patients needing complex emergency or critical care. All major cardiac, stroke and emergency obstetric patients will also be treated on the site, as well as most trauma cases in a move that will allow other hospitals in the region to concentrate on providing routine diagnosis and treatment without having to give priority to emergency patients.
Grange University Hospital will be home to more than 40 specialist services and will feature a helicopter pad for air ambulance patients.
Wrightstyle is supplying a fire rated curtain wall screen and double doors for the entrance to the hospital’s restaurant. The company has recently supplied glazing for a project at Guy’s Hospital in London.
Chris Peters, Wrightstyle’s chief design manager, says:
“Hospitals are complex buildings, with a great deal of flammable material, and with occupants who may be unable to self-rescue.
“They require a very high level of fire protection, so that any fire can be contained at source without risk of it spreading.
“Wrightstyle has national and international healthcare experience, and our complete and guaranteed internal and external systems provide the perfect passive fire protective solution.”
