Sodexo CSR Chief Elected President of French Services Professions Association (GPS)

Damien Verdier, Sodexo’s Group Chief Strategy and Corporate Responsibility Officer, will succeed Christian Nibourel, former chairman of Accenture France and Benelux, as President of the French Services Professions Association (“GPS”) in January following his selection by its members.

Verdier joined Sodexo in 1979 when the company had only 16,000 employees in France – today, the group is the country’s largest private employer and has more than 470,000 employees on its global payroll.

He previously held several, senior management positions with Sodexo France before joining the Group Executive Committee where he currently oversees group strategy, supply chain, marketing, sustainable development and inovation as Group Chief Strategy and Corporate Responsibility Officer.

Previous appointments in business service organisations include serving as president of the French Contract Catering Union from 2001 to 2006, and as Vice=President of the European Federation of Contract Catering Organizations. Verdier has also chaired the Services taskforce of the Business Europe association for ten years and oversaw its preparations for the EU Services Directive.

His work with environmental organisations has included collaborating with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and other organisations to found the International Food Waste Coalition – an organisation he chairs that strives to minimise food waste throughout food supply chains.

A staunch advocate for the services sector and, more recently, its more widespread adoption of technology, Verdier says:

“Services meet basic human needs and society’s key challenges like the ecological transition, ageing population, digital transformation, social inclusion and regional development. Our professions and companies underpin economic growth and job creation in France.

“In a time when world competition is ramping up, it is time to take action in collaboration with government authorities to boost service businesses.”
