Behavioural Analysis 2020

Philip Baum, Chair of Behavioural Analysis 2020 and managing director of global security consultancy and training services provider, Green Light Limited, provides a preview of the forthcoming conference.

Behavioural Analysis 2020, the 3rd international security conference on tactical risk assessment and non-racial profiling, aims to bring together security practitioners and academics in order to examine how – based on academically proven methods, rather than sensational myths we can identify people with negative intent.

The terrorist threat to society may be the primary focus of our attention but we believe that an increased awareness can help venues, transportation hubs, sports stadia, tourist attractions, hotels and governmental facilities recognise a much broader range of security threats – from petty criminal activities to human trafficking and from sexual deviancy in public places to anti-social behaviour.

The conference will not market any one solution. Rather we will have presentations from academic researchers who have explored which techniques work – and which do not – in the live environment of crowded places. We will also have end users talk about their experience in deploying behavioural analysis techniques. Issues such as training, motivation and the avoidance of stereotyping will also be examined, as well as the role technology can play in identifying possible threats.

And we will also consider the controversial issue as to whether Pinocchio’s nose really exists! In other words, is deception detection really identifiable by a person’s expression?

We launched the event in Cardiff in 2018 and saw delegate numbers increase when we ran the conference in Minneapolis last year.

For 2020, our venue is the Royal Air Force Museum in London  and I look forward to seeing you all on 10th and 11th June.

Please don’t miss out on the take-off rate offered on our website and do take the opportunity to review our conference programme here.
