Supporting Communities in India with Meals

A partnership between Sodexo and public service organisations, India Food Banking Network and Zomato Feeding India, is providing 900,000 meals for COVID-affected communities.

Targeting 85,000 wage-earners and low-income families in Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Patna and Varanasi, the initiative is part of the French multinational support services group’s “Stop Hunger” campaign which utilises a global network of non-profit organisations to alleviate food poverty and work towards a sustainable, hunger-free world.

Sodexo’s work with India Food Banking Network involves distributing dry ration kits of cooking essentials such as rice, wheat flour, pulses, oil and spices to 26,625 beneficiaries.

With Zomato Feeding India, the company is more than 60,000 meal packets to migrant labourers, daily wage earners and people who have been stranded at in-transit points in Delhi and Mumbai. Each meal kit contains vital products for basic needs: water bottle, glucose biscuits, sattu (roasted gram or chana powder), chips, namkeen, roasted chana, soap strips – with a face mask also included to help spread the further spread of the coronavirus.

Rohit Bahety, Sodexo India Country President, comments: “This is our way of playing the part and giving back to the society in a meaningful way.”
