Recognition for Medirest Infection Control Manager

Anna Hallas, Medirest UK’s Domestic and Infection Control Manager, has been named in The New Year Honours list for 2021 which recognises the extraordinary achievements of people in the United Kingdom

Hallas, who has been with Medirest (Compass Group’s Healthcare division) for 24 years, has been instrumental in supporting delivery of Domestic Services and adherence to Infection Control Standards across the organisation’s partner Trusts. Her role has included supporting teams during the ongoing fight against COVID-19, and working collaboratively with NHSI/E – the organisation created by the merter of NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSI).

Recently selected overall winner of Medirest’s internal “Healthcare Hero” campaign which attracted hundreds of nominees, Hallas has also been active in the development and implementation of new Standard Operating Procedures within NHSI/E. She says: “I am so proud to be named on the New Year’s Honours list and become an MBE. I know 2020 was a challenging time for so many and I hope the work I have done has gone some way to making a difference.

“I love supporting the NHS and being part of a team who care so much about the importance of the role we play.”

Steve Cenci, managing director of Compass Group UK & Ireland Healthcare, adds: “We have seen how important cleaning is in reducing the spread of infection and Anna is in a unique position, using her specialist knowledge and experience to support our organisation, but also hospitals across the country.

“It’s wonderful to see her get this well-deserved acknowledgment and I want to thank her for always going above and beyond. Anna is an inspiration and her work has made a huge impact.”

Adrian Eggleton, National Estates Operational Lead at NHS England and NHS Improvement, comments: “Anna has played a significant role in the championing of the FM workforce in the NHS and the development of guidance in support of the national team at NHS England and NHS Improvement.

“This has been especially so during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping us produce procedures and training packages for the FM workforce to operate safely and effectively, which has been instrumental in the NHS response. This recognition is well deserved.”
