Springboard Awards for Excellence

Medirest, Compass Group UK & Ireland’s healthcare division, was the recipient of a ‘Best National Support for Key Workers’ award at this year’s Springboard Awards for Excellence.

Leading industry charity, Springboard, has a vision to futureproof the hospitality talent pipeline, and recruit, train and prepare 10,000 young people to enter the industry by 2022.

The ‘Best National Support for Key Workers’ category is one of several that have been added to the annual awards in 2021 to mark the unprecedented circumstances faced by the hospitality industry over the last year. Judges looked at how businesses stepped up to support their key workers and the impact it had on a national level.

During the pandemic, Medirest was one of the first to acknowledge its frontline, who work shoulder to shoulder with the NHS workforce, by awarding a six-week bonus to its frontline employees and supervisors. A permanent wage increase to match the NHS Agenda for Change rate of pay shortly followed, and alongside functional support – medical helpline, financial aid fund, enhanced Employee Assistance Programme and welfare calls – care boxes and treat packages were also gifted. A campaign to recognise the company’s ‘Healthcare Heroes’ was also launched last year to acknowledge some of the amazing stories from across the business.

Steven Cenci, Medirest managing director, comments: “This award means a great deal to everybody at Medirest, especially all our amazing healthcare and care workers up and down the country, who so richly deserve this accolade.

“Our people are at the heart of all that we do. We strive to ensure our colleagues always feel valued and we are incredibly proud of the exceptional work they have done to support the NHS hospitals and communities over the last 12 months. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible.”
