Exposing Widespread FM Failures in the UK
A potentially explosive book by Cloudfm CEO, Jeff Dewing, contains allegations of widespread corporate failings in the UK’s £120 billion market for facilities management services.
Entitled ‘Doing the opposite’, the new publication identifies problems its author describes as endemic to the country’s FM industry, whilst proposing a manifesto for change that focuses on on changing existing organisational cultures by connecting values to service providers’ activities and operations in activities as diverse as over-billing and ‘behind closed doors’ activities which Dewing writes erode accountability across the value chain.
The book is packed with real-life stories highlighting issues that range from a lack of compliance to overcharging and suggests ‘the traditional FM relationships are stuck in a cycle of self-destruction.’
Data detailed in the book suggests that legal compliance is a significant issue for the industry, with only 30-40% of buildings having the correct documentation and processes to protect the very people that operate within those assets.
Dewing, who co-founded Cloudfm in 1990, building a successful business that grew to a turnover of £70 million in only 4 years, refers to himself and the company as disruptors, and points out that by using cutting-edge technology and innovative thinking to drive behavioural change, Cloudfm has demonstrated incredible cost efficiencies and radically improved legal compliance for all of its Clients.
Citing a personal career which has seen him travel from owning a successful business, and even a football club in the 1990s to claiming state benefits prior to establishing Cloudfm, he says: “It’s time to hold a mirror up to the industry, I set out to highlight some of the fundamental problems our industry faces and suggest a positive manifesto for change. We have the technology to enable a new era of transparency and behaviour that will rebuild trust and confidence in the industry and drive huge efficiencies and cost-benefits to all the associated stakeholders.
“My new publication is the story of my life and business career, and how his upbringing was the catalyst for a disruptive drive for change. It examines the facilities management industry and highlights the life lessons that helped him build back from set-backs and shares essential tips for resilience in times of crisis for business, facilities management and life.”
‘Doing the Opposite’ is receiving consistent five-star reviews and is now available on Amazon in both paperback and Kindle e-book at Doing the opposite: A life, its lessons & building success eBook: Dewing, Jeff, Wills, James: Amazon.co.uk: Kindle Store.
