2021 ACR News Awards

Johnson Controls’ YORK AMICHI YMPA air-cooled reversible heat pump has been named “Heat Pump Product of the Year” in the 2021 ACR News Awards competition.

The product was one of 11 award winners in the annual competition, which celebrates business innovation and the achievements of people from across the HVAC-R sectors. 112 products were submitted by 52 companies covering residential and commercial heating.

According to the manufacturer, the YORK AMICHI YMPA pump incorporates a DC inverter and “superior energy-saving heat recovery system” to support year-round residential heating applications.

The company’s low-Global Warming Potential (GWP) R454B refrigerant was also selected as a winner in the same category, adding to Johnson Controls’ recent success at China Refrigeration Expo where its premium residential YORK YVAG heat recovery solution was awarded the 2021 CRH Innovation Award.

George Oliver, chairman and CEO, comments: “These awards further showcase our dedication to innovation and sustainability, recognising products that deliver a step change in standalone performance. When integrated with our OpenBlue platform, they deliver outstanding improvements in sustainability and energy efficiency.

“Our European and China teams invested countless hours, conducted multiple field tests and incorporated customer feedback to create these truly groundbreaking products.”

Jeff Williams, president, Global Products, Johnson Controls, adds: “Heat pumps have always been in the DNA of industrial refrigeration, and they’ve been adapted in food and beverage, dairy and other process industries for reclaiming waste heat and turning it into low-cost, high-temperature heat.

“Our technologies are helping meet the growing demand for heat pumps in the European and Chinese markets and beyond.”

The awards support Johnson Controls’ commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The company has announced plans to slash operating emissions by 55 per cent and reduce customer emissions by 16 percent before 2030.
