New Director of Development for £5 Billion Liverpool Waters Project

Peel L&P has appointed Chris Capes as Director of Development for the two million square metre Liverpool Waters regeneration project in Merseyside.

Capes, who will assume his position in June, has over 20 years’ experience working in regeneration and property development within local government, including periods spent with Cheshire West and Chester Councils. He currently leads the development team at Liverpool City Council, which he joined in October 2019.

He has also helped shape multiple other public realm and waterfront regeneration schemes.

The £5.5 billion Liverpool Waters project will create a thriving, mixed-use neighbourhood in the Vauxhall area of Liverpool in Merseyside (North West England) by converting a series of derelict dock spaces at Central Docks. The first significant planned development to be completed on the site was Regenda’s Plaza 1821 last year – a £21 million residential tower offering 105 one and two bedroom apartments, with The Lexington – a 34-storey residential building developed by Moda Living that will accommodate 325 apartments focused on the private rented sector, scheduled for completion this August.

Development of a Central Docks neighbourhood is also moving forward with key infrastructure projects taking place – including the recent completion of a new link road, Jesse Hartley Way, and the new Isle of Man Ferry terminal, which is onsite now and expected to complete in 2022. Important residential, commercial, leisure and public realm developments are also in the pipeline, including Romal Capital’s proposals for a new £100 million neighbourhood.

Capes comments: “I’m thrilled to be joining Peel L&P at such an exciting time and looking forward to working with the Liverpool Waters team to build on the excellent progress made in recent years.

“The regeneration of the city’s waterfront, in line with the incredible vision for the Liverpool Waters site, is vitally important for the whole region and I look forward to driving its progress.”

James Whittaker, Executive Director of Development at Peel L&P, adds: “We are delighted to welcome Chris to Peel L&P and look forward to working with him to build on the recent successes and momentum achieved at Liverpool Waters. With a range of projects onsite, several in the planning stages, and the recent approval of the new Everton stadium, there has never been a more exciting time to lead the Liverpool Waters team.”
