German Industrial Park Explosion Claims Second Fatality
A second fatality has been reported following yesterday’s explosion in the Bürrig Disposal Center at the Chempark Leverkusen industrial park in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
The second death follows initial reports of one fatality, thirty-one employees sustaining injuries, and five remaining unaccounted for.
Commenting on the tragic circumstances, Chempark manager, Lars Friedrich, said: “My thoughts are with the injured and their families.
“The search for the missing is still going on at full speed. Unfortunately, the hope of finding them alive is dwindling.”
A fire at the scene was extinguished by the municipal fire service with support from the industrial park’s fire team and an air monitoring van, with local residents advised to remain indoors and close all doors and windows for several hours.
