UN Global Compact LEAD Status for Ecolab

Ecolab has become the latest of only 37 companies to achieve LEAD status for engaging with the United Nations Global Compact, a voluntary initiative based on CEO commitments to implement universal sustainability principles.

To be eligible for LEAD status, the more than 12,000 companies in 160 countries that have already subscribed to the program must participate in at least two Action Platforms to demonstrate their continued engagement  and commit to defining and fostering leadership practices in line with Ten Principles and Global Goals; and submit an Advanced Communication on Progress (CoP)—an annual sustainability report detailing progress on implementing the Ten Principles, within the same calendar year.

Global Compact LEAD companies enjoy the following benefits::

  • Inclusion within an annual list of Global Compact LEAD companies at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit;
  • Opportunities to join the scheme’s multi-stakeholder Expert Network and offer advice to the UN Global Compact on programmatic priorities; and
  • Consideration for speaking opportunities at UN Global Compact events.

Ecolab has demonstrated its commitment to the UN Global Compact this year by participating in the UN Business Ambition for 1.5 C, the Water Resilience Coalition, and submitting an Advanced Communication on Progress. Each UN Global Compact Action Platform convenes business, Global Compact Local Networks, leading experts, civil society, governments and UN partners to solve complex and interconnected issues and innovate around the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ecolab President and CEO, Christophe Beck, comments: “For almost a century, the Ecolab team has worked to deliver on the promise of more sustainable operations for ourselves and our customers.

“We are proud of our partnership with the UN Global Compact and its role in advancing sustainable and responsible principles. We look forward to shared progress toward a healthier future, as we continue to address global water and climate challenges.”

Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and executive director of the UN Global Compact, adds: “LEAD companies represent the highest level of engagement with the UN Global Compact.

“More than ever before, the world needs businesses of all sizes — like the ones announced as LEAD today — that continuously work to improve their sustainability performance and take action to build a better world.”
