Improving the Coordination of Offshore Wind Transmission
The Crown Estate, Crown Estate Scotland and National Grid Group subsidiary National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) have committed to building a closer relationship in support coordinated delivery of offshore wind projects in the UK.
As key partners of the Offshore Transmission Network Review (OTNR), all three organisations are engaged in seabed leasing and planning, and the development and construction of transmission infrastructure relating to offshore wind energy – in line with a commitments by the government to realise the United Kingdom’s clean offshore energy potential.
In recent years, pressure has been mounting on energy suppliers to minimise the impact of wind farms on the marine environment and on coastal communities.
It is believed these calls have prompted the OTNR members to explore new opportunities for alignment in line with the need to to deliver more positive environmental outcomes.
