SSEN Transmission Launches Digital Journey with IBM Maximo and Peacock Engineering

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Transmission has appointed Peacock Engineering, a class-leading specialist in Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solutions, as part of its digital investment strategy, aligned with Ofgem’s RIIO-T2 price controls for electricity providers to deliver world-class service and reliability.

Using an IBM Maximo cloud-based solution fully managed by Peacock Engineering, the new EAM system will help SSEN Transmission efficiently maintain its assets, such as powerlines and electricity towers.

Peacock Engineering is an IBM gold partner dedicated to helping utility and facilities management blue-chip and FTSE 100 businesses deliver on their asset management strategy.

The significant, multi-year managed cloud service and delivery contract will see Peacock Engineering work with SSEN Transmission, part of the SSE plc Group, to migrate the energy giant’s current IBM Maximo system into the cloud.

This will enable SSEN Transmission to use IBM Maximo in its entirety; providing access to real-time data and to undertake total work management for maintaining its assets, inventory, and supply chains, and to gain full understanding of costs to support its assets management strategy. In turn, this reduces asset downtime, increases the lifespan of assets and helps achieve regulatory compliance.

Migrating SSEN Transmission’s current system into the cloud will also negate outdated and costly paper-based processes and can integrate with other key Asset Management and Operational applications to give a richer view of the assets across SSEN Transmission’s network.

Iain Dougan, Head of IT Operations, SSEN Transmission, comments: “SSEN Transmission is delighted to appoint Peacock Engineering to support with the delivery of our sector leading Digital Investment Strategy. We selected Peacock Engineering as it has a strong track record of delivery with proven yet cost effective Maximo expertise, and we look forward to working in partnership with them to successfully deliver our roadmap of future deliveries as part of our RIIO-T2 business plan commitments.”

Alan Cambridge, CEO of Peacock Engineering, says: The benefits of migrating to IBM Maximo’s cloud software gives greater control and visibility of all assets, their health, work history and plans, which helps to extend the lifecycle of these assets. It also allows users to monitor data that is critical to asset performance, maintenance and compliance, as well as safety and efficiency for all employees and contractors.

“We’re delighted to be working with SSEN Transmission to help them optimise the entire benefits of IBM Maximo, building on process and data improvements that empowers their employees, contractors and management to make better data driven, informed decisions.”
