EMCOR Progresses to Level 2 of UK Government Disability Scheme

EMCOR UK’s disability inclusion policies now satisfy requirements stipulated for ‘Disability Confident’ employers, the second level of the UK government’s Disability Confident scheme.

The scheme was introduced by the government to help employers recruit and retain great people, and to:

  • challenge attitudes and increase understanding of disability
  • draw from the widest possible pool of talent
  • secure high-quality staff who are skilled, loyal and hard working
  • improve employee morale and commitment by demonstrating fair treatment

It also helps identify employers who are committed to inclusion and diversity in the workplace.

The scheme has 3 levels that are designed to support employers on their Disability Confident journey:

  • Disability Confident Committed (Level 1)
  • Disability Confident Employer (Level 2)
  • Disability Confident Leader (Level 3)

All employers join the scheme at Disability Confident Committed (Level 1), and progress through the levels to achieve the one that’s right for their organisation.

Impetus to become a Disability Confident Employer was driven by EMCOR’s Ability Focus Group, part of its Creating Balance programme, which aims to create a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone can achieve their potential, feel welcomed and respected. The focus group conducted a gap analysis and worked with external auditors to ensure the company is meeting appropriate standards and implementing best practice.

Keith Chanter, CEO of EMCOR UK, comments: “We are delighted to be recognised as a Disability Confident Employer which supports our commitment to be an inclusive employer and our purpose to create a better world at work.

“We continually strive for the advancement of equality and opportunity and to raise awareness of the benefits of an inclusive culture.”

Mark Treeby, Account Director and member of the company’s Ability Focus Group, adds: “We have worked hard to ensure that EMCOR UK meets the standards required to become a Disability Confident Employer.

“We reviewed all our people related policies and processes to ensure that we attract, support and retain employees that may have a disability.

“We are proud to become a Disability Confident Employer but our work does not stop here as we are now working toward becoming a Disability Confident Leader.”
