DAMAC Achieves Energy Savings with AI

Listen to this article

An artificial intelligence (AI) solution using digital twin technology is helping Dubai-based luxury developer DAMAC Properties to achieve and pass on significant reductions in utility costs.

According to the outcome of a digital simulation conducted in August 22, savings are being achieved in as little as 30 days using Deep Reinforcement Learning to learn and adjust Building Management System (BMS) settings to precise cooling and ventilation parameters.

The solution from Arloid, arloid.ai, operates in real-time to adjust HVAC system settings and reduce utility bills and carbon footprints.

DAMAC Properties offers residential, commercial and leisure properties for sale across the Gulf region. The company’s ethos is one of indulgence facilitating luxurious and comfortable living. Needless to say, the need for comfortable living is imperative in the luxury sector.

To produce savings for DAMAC Properties, a digital twin of actual buildings is produced using the same construction materials, location, weather patterns and personnel. The AI begins to analyse settings and creates a series of simulations based on live data from the real building.

Adjustments are made automatically to the ventilating and cooling settings for optimum comfort and savings. Adjusting the settings is nothing new – previously an engineer would assess and change settings required. Now, that the whole process can be done automatically and instantly without delay.

We are saving money and just as important for me as a sustainability advocate, we are reducing our carbon footprint.

Jawad AlTamini, Director of Facilities Management, DAMAC Properties

Jawad AlTamini, DAMAC’s Director of Facilities Management, explains: “There are afew solutions available on the market that we have tried but the Arloid solution is much simpler and provides a straight-forward and much shorter process.

“There are many benefits for DAMAC. We are saving money and just as important for me as a sustainability advocate, we are reducing our carbon footprint. On top of that, it’s a zero investment solution. Our results so far are good and we are ready to roll out the Arloid solution to our portfolio of 40-plus properties.’’

By implementing the AI technology DAMAC Properties are increasing their green credentials with reduced energy use and carbon saving which, in turn, adds value to the company’s quality and sustainability credentials.

The technology can be used across any building with an existing BMS to control heating, ventilating, and air conditioning. It operates securely via a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and makes changes based on reinforcement behaviour and real-time data to provide faster optimisation and better HVAC performance. Different areas of a building can be managed separately with the use of zones providing more control and improving user comfort.

2022 has seen a massive change in the supply of oil and gas across the world with supply-side shortages increasing prices and many organisations and countries endeavouring to reduce their demand significantly.
