Ian Baker to Chair Workspace SIG at IWFM

EMCOR UK‘s Head of Workplace, Ian Baker, has been named as the new Chair of the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWMF) Workspace Special Interest Group.

IWFM maintains 11 special Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which provide expert guidance and opinion in a range of areas including sustainability, technology and people management – with the organisation’s wider membership encouraged to contribute at, and participate in, networking opportunities.

Key topics of focus for the group include organisational management and culture, design and fit out, technology, and people planning.

Baker had been on the Workspace SIG committee since August 2020 and takes over as Chair from Simone Fenton-Jarvis who is now a non-executive director of the IWFM.

Baker has an extensive background in property consulting and management, as client, consultant and part of delivery teams. In 2018 he was involved in a government funded project to review the effects that indoor environmental conditions can have on cognitive performance and productivity. Baker has also presented on workplace topics at industry events such as Workplace Trends. He will be making a presentation at the IWFM London Region Conference ‘Back to the Future’ event on 15th November.

Commenting on his appointment, Baker says: “The Workspace SIG has been such a valuable resource for me since I joined. It’s allowed all members to share best practice and support each other, which has been hugely beneficial during the last few years. As Chair, I hope to grow the committee further and ensure we stay on top of all workspace trends.”
