Planet Mark Accreditation

Listen to this article

UK refurbishment contractor Pexhurst has achieved Planet Mark sustainability certification.

Planet Mark is a certification that recognises continuous improvement, encourages action and builds an empowered community of like-minded individuals who make a world of difference. The construction sector is one of the greatest contributors to waste, making sustainability a high-priority for the industry. As a provider of professional fit-out and refurbishment services to the industrial, commercial and specialist sectors, Pexhurst is dedicated to minimising the environmental impact of its business operations, reducing waste and investing in green technologies.

The Planet Mark accreditation helps businesses to positively transform society, the environment and the economy through measurement of their carbon and social data. Planet Mark does this by using the three-step process of measurement, engagement and communication. An organisation’s commitment to improvement is demonstrated by measuring its impact, and by engaging with its stakeholders on the process, allowing them to communicate their progress with confidence, transparency and enthusiasm.

Pexhurst has demonstrated its dedication to minimising the environmental impact of its business operations, reducing waste and investing in green technologies. In 2021, Pexhurst’s total carbon footprint was 68.7 tCO₂e, and its total carbon footprint per employee was 1.4 tCO₂e. Additionally, Pexhurst’s total social value amounted to £217,042 which refers to the net social and environmental benefits generated by the team.

Steve Malkin, CEO of  Planet Mark, comments: “I am thrilled to recognise Pexhurst Services as a recently certified Planet Mark member and applaud them for their ongoing commitment to putting people and planet at the forefront of business operations. Working within an industry that has obvious and tangible impacts on a global scale, Pexhurst Services’ allegiance to supporting the green transition is significant.

“We look forward to working with Pexhurst over the coming years to help them reduce carbon emissions and drive meaningful change in the sector.”

Martin Vella, Pexhurst managing director, adds: “As a socially responsible business Pexhurst always strives to be sustainable in its processes, and achieving the Planet Mark certification shows our dedication to the planet and its people.”

The Planet Mark accreditation also gives businesses the opportunity to strengthen their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies and to set credible net zero carbon targets that align with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)’s Net-Zero Corporate Standards. As well as environmental impact, it also measures social impact, such as verifying procurement contracts that include commitments to ethical employment practices in the supply chain and time invested in initiatives such as community volunteering.
