Disruptive Technologies (DT) has been named as a CES® 2023 Innovation Awards Honoree for its Desk Occupancy Sensor.

This year’s CES Innovation Awards program received a record number of over 2,100 submissions. The announcement was made ahead of the CES 2023 technology event which will take place in Las Vegas from 5th to 8th January.

Billed as the smallest device of its type, the Desk Occupancy Sensor collects data to solve real operational challenges in corporate and commercial Real Estate, whilst also respecting the privacy of individuals.

Joining DT’s comprehensive sensor suite, which includes temperature, touch, proximity, water, humidity, CO2 and motion sensors, the Desk Occupancy Sensor features an adhesive backing, long battery life, and the simplest installation and integration. The discreet sensor can be deployed anywhere, without impacting space or aesthetics, accurately recording the occupancy status of each individual workspace. Importantly, however, this sensor’s key differentiator is that the data is gathered without the use of cameras and without identifying the individual. Instead, using a combination of temperature measurements and machine learning to determine if a desk is occupied. Ensuring total privacy for occupants at all times.

Officially launched on September 13, 2022, the device can be installed without disrupting infrastructure, legacy systems, or workspace. Battery life is maximised by using DT Silicon for the temperature measurement (low energy), the company’s cloud service for running the machine learning algorithms (high performance), and DT Studio for dashboards, integrations, and notifications, means that each sensor can last for eight years without requiring maintenance. Providing businesses with an efficient, box-ready solution.

Bengt Lundberg, CEO of Disruptive Technologies, comments: ‘We are absolutely delighted to receive this recognition from CES. Particularly at a time of such impressive competition.

‘Desk occupancy monitoring has become an integral feature of efficient resource management. Our sensor delivers those key data points that managers need, without infringing on the privacy of the workforce. Enabling businesses to treat their workers with respect while still maximising the potential of facilities and resources.’

The CES Innovation Awards program, owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in 28 consumer technology product categories. Those with the highest rating receive the “Best of Innovation” distinction. An elite panel of industry expert judges, including members of the media, designers, engineers and more, reviewed submissions based on innovation, engineering and functionality, aesthetic and design.

The CES 2023 Innovation Awards honorees, including product descriptions and photos, can be found at More will be revealed in January when several honorees will showcase their winning products in the Innovation Awards Showcase at CES 2023.
