Ansell Lighting has been honoured with the first ever King’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation for its ‘Panel Pod’ which converts LED panel light into emergency lighting within sixty seconds,
Ansell was one of 148 organisations nationally to receive the prestigious award.
The Panel Pod was created after the lighting company identified a need from facilities managers, and is installed without requiring a conversion kit or additional ceiling fixture. Emergency lighting is a legal requirement in the United Kingdom where three hours of lighting is required following a power-cut or fire incident.
Almost 400,000 Panel Pods have been sold worldwide since the product’s launch in 2014.
The King’s Awards for Enterprise was previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, with its rebrand reflecting His Majesty The King’s desire to continue HM Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy by recognising outstanding UK businesses. Businesses selected for the awards which are now in their 57th year can also use a distinctive ‘King’s Awards’ emblem in their marketing for five years.
A reception is also held for all award winners at Buckingham Palace.
Achieving this award, especially in the first year of the King’s Awards, is a great honour and testament to the hard work and dedication of our innovation team and everyone involved in the business.
Mark Abbott, Ansell Lighting managing director, says: “Achieving this award, especially in the first year of the King’s Awards, is a great honour and testament to the hard work and dedication of our innovation team and everyone involved in the business.
“The design and creation of the Panel Pod was genuinely transformative for our business and continues to contribute significantly to our ongoing success. Its launch paved the way for new relationships with wholesalers and contractors who we had never worked with previously. It is a fantastic example of continuous innovation as, over the last eight years, we have continued to re-evaluated its design, making it lighter and more discreet, upgrading the battery to Lithium and now we are working on a reporting capability for it that will be extremely valuable to the building managers using emergency lighting.”
