Mitie will continue to deliver multiple services at Manchester Airport, East Midlands Airport, London Stansted Airport and George Best Belfast City Airport following contract extensions to March 2025.

The integrated facility services provider employes over 300 people on its contract with Manchester Airports Group (MAG) which came into effect in 2016 at Manchester Airport and the regional East Midlands Airport. In 2023 Manchester Airport, the UK’s third busiest, has already welcomed 25 million passengers.

Cleaning and technical services are provided at both airports, with the ‘hard’ services component including reactive and pre-planned maintenance on HVAC and electrical systems, doors, drains fire alarms, and water systems.

Mitie’s contract at London Stansted Airport commenced in 2008 and includes hold baggage screening (HBS) services. The contract has subsequently been extended on three occasions, most recently via the addition of a new, two-year contract.

London Stansted, which is also part of MAG, served over 25 million passengers in the last year, with Mitie providing manned security services and specially trained personnel to operate the airport’s sophisticated security screening systems.

Mitie has also extended a three-year contract with George Best Belfast City Airport which also relates to security services. The company has worked closely with the airport since 2015 to enhance its security operations, and will continue delivering passenger and hold baggage screening, patrol services and overseeing ad-hoc security operations. Enhanced training to support passengers requiring special assistance is also planned at the airport.

These new contracts are testament to our colleagues’ dedication to deliver exceptional services and enhanced passenger experiences across these airports

Jason Towse, Managing Director of Business Services, says: “These new contracts are testament to our colleagues’ dedication to deliver exceptional services and enhanced passenger experiences across these airports, underpinning our status as a leading provider in the aviation sector.

“We look forward to supporting the journeys of the millions of passengers travelling through terminals at Manchester, East Midlands, Stansted, and Belfast as we head into the busy summer months and beyond.”

Mark Beattie, Chief Operations Officer for Belfast City Airport, says: “Providing a comfortable, convenient, and safe experience for each of our passengers is our top priority.

“Over the past number of years, we have developed a positive working relationship with Mitie which has allowed us to continue to deliver the high standard and quality of service and safety that the airport is known for, including processing passengers through security in an average time of only six minutes. We are very pleased to extend our contract with Mitie and we look forward to the future of our partnership.”
