Amey has leverage its ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems accreditation to help HM Courts and Tribunal Service (Avon and Somerset) lower carbon emissions by 30 per cent.
The integrated services provider delivers facilities and estate management services to the HMCTS regional headquarters and courthouses for North Somerset and Bristol in South West England through a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract.
Carbon savings were achieved by combining continuous improvement in reactive and planned maintenance with site surveys to produce heat maps elucidating consumption patterns during non-core operational hours across an estate that includes Bristol Magistrates Court, the North Somerset Courthouse and Queensway House – facilities which house house magistrates courts as well as Probation Service and administrative centres.

For each site survey, half-hourly energy utilisation data was collated which was then used to adjust Building Management System (BMS) schedules. Monthly energy meetings with the client provided an additional platform for discussing opportunities to enhancing building performance and align recorded improvements with operational benchmarks and occupancy trends.
