James Hutton Institute Awards Soft Services Contract

Listen to this article

Contract caterer Elior UK will deliver catering, hospitality and cleaning services at two sites operated by The James Hutton Institute in Invergowrie near Dundee, and Craigiebuckler in Aberdeen, following the award of a new integrated services contract.

The institute, which is referred to colloquially as ‘The Hutton’, is recognised globally for its research into applied science and driving the sustainable use of land and natural resources.

We were impressed by the quality of Elior’s proposal and the technical solutions on offer.

Elior’s 37-strong team will be a mix of chef managers, cooks, catering and cleaning assistants who will provide services for the Hutton’s 500+ employees across its two locations.

Employing the latest technology is key to Elior’s service offer to ensure that its clients benefit from the latest digital solutions. Elior’s Breaz app went live on the first day of the contract as the sites are cashless, which allows employees the ability to browse, order, and pay for food via their smartphone, minimising wait times and eliminating the need for paper menus that are quickly out of date and create more waste.

The Invergowrie site will see a new restaurant opening this summer, creating new opportunities for the introduction of delicious guest kitchens and pop-ups.

Ian Hadden, facilities manager at the Hutton, says: “We are excited to be collaborating with Elior as our new partner for all things catering and cleaning. We were impressed by the quality of Elior’s proposal and the technical solutions on offer. As we welcome the infrastructure development at both our campuses, we look forward to developing our contract with Elior. As our relationship continues, we will be exploring the potential for more formal hospitality as well as developing the catering options for everyone on site”

Calum McLaren, regional managing director of Elior UK, adds: “The James Hutton Institute is exactly the type of organisation we love to work with. An institution that is working towards positive change for the planet aligns fully with our aims and CSR objectives. We are working together to create a contact that can adapt and grow to meet the Institute’s needs as it expands, whilst enabling the best service provision.”

The institut conducts research into crops, soil and land use, and has influenced policy on global issues including food, energy, environmental security, and how technology can be used effectively to manage natural resources.
