Supporting Women in Property

DM Hall, the Cumbrian chartered surveying firm which recently acquired Kendal and Carlisle-based Hyde Harrington, is enhancing its presence in North West England through a new partnership with the Lancashire & Cumbria chapter of the Women in Property (WiP) network.

The firm, which provides services to the commercial property, construction, and social housing sectors, will become a sponsor of WiP’s Cumbria and Lancashire section for a year and will help advance the network’s ambitious events programme.

Women in Property has an array of social events, as well as its own mentoring scheme and an acclaimed Student Awards programme every year. It actively seeks an industry that is balanced, diverse and inclusive.

As well as once again raising its profile in the area, the deal will strengthen ties with WiP, whose 300-plus North West members span all professions in property and construction including law, architecture, surveying, design, consultancy and contracting.

WiP L&C Chair Jane Fillis, an Associate Rural Property Lawyer at Harrison Drury, says: “We are delighted to take part in this exciting new tie-up with DM Hall and look forward to a fruitful and rewarding partnership.

“The new sponsorship will help facilitate our continued support for our members throughout their careers from graduate to senior board level, and positively encourage girls aspiring to a career in the built environment sector.

The Lancashire & Cumbria group of WiP plans a full programme for 2024, including:

  • A series of webinars for SMEs on marketing, branding and development.
  • An online educational programme about Pride.
  • A joint event with North West Women in Property – site tour of the new Intrastack facility
  • A Lancaster wellness workshop
  • A summer event featuring a Windermere boat cruise.
  • A Preston regeneration site tour.
  • Autumn events including paddleboarding, cocktail making, Hallowe’en and wreath making.

Cumbria-based Caroline Hayton – a commercial property assistant at DM Hall, says: “We are very much looking forward to this new partnership which will further increase the firm’s involvement in the business life of the region.

“Women in Property plays an important role in expanding opportunities within the industry and creating a more diverse sector, and DM Hall is pleased to be assisting it with its valuable programme.”

Katie Craig, a Partner in DM Hall, adds: “We want to spread the word that this is an exciting new era for our firm in Cumbria and this new alliance with Women in Property will bring significant benefits for both parties.”

DM Hall operates a network of offices across Scotland and in 2023 expanded into the North of England.
