Letters: Labour’s Proposed Growth and Skills Levy

Listen to this article

Kelly Dolphin, SBFM people and culture director, comments on plans by the Labour Party to ‘shake-up’ apprenticeship funding in the United Kingdom.

Sirs,

Over the weekend, Labour formally announced its new Growth and Apprenticeship Levy proposal in response to the current Apprenticeship Levy.

The proposal received news coverage from the BBC (amongst others) at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c511058gzdpo.

Labour’s proposal for a “Growth and Skills” Levy would give needed flexibility for the spending of Apprenticeship Levy funds.

In the FM sector, that lets us tailor our training needs to specific industry demands.

The Level 2 Cleaning Hygiene Operative Apprenticeship was approved this year and it exemplifies how expanding training and development activities beyond traditional apprenticeships can bring new people and skills into a variety of industries.

We welcome the introduction of flexible traineeship funding because it means that we could develop even more people with government support.

Kelly Dolphin

People and Culture Director
