Listen to this article

Changes in the FM sector are fast-paced. Whether it’s net zero targets, hybrid working, new regulations or the huge potential of automation, there’s more pressure than ever on professionals to make smart decisions and stay ahead.

To help understand the challenges and priorities shaping the future of the sector, JLA recently surveyed leading FM professionals on everything from sustainability and compliance to workplace transformation. The results are pulled together in a brand-new white paper, The Road to 2030, which combines key insights and expert analysis to give a better picture of the next five years.

The key insights include…

Sustainability goals

With net zero targets on the horizon, sustainability is only going to rise up the agenda for FM professionals. In fact, nearly 90 per cent of respondents to the survey said that it’s their key focus. JLA’s white paper explains the trends in this area – and looks at the impact of stricter regulations from schemes like BREEAM and LEED.

It also shows that procurement and supply chains are increasingly important, and factored into decisions to ensure ongoing compliance and a reduced environmental impact overall.

Evolving workspaces

Since Covid’s first lockdown measures, hybrid working has completely changed how organisations use their offices and other facilities. The survey backed this up, with over 80 per cent of FM professionals saying that collaborative spaces are vital.

As well as smarter ways to work, JLA also found that wellbeing and productivity are just as important in workplace design and return-to-work policies, with air quality in particular a priority. Through this, the paper explores how technologies like air filtration can contribute to wellbeing and productivity.

Digital transformation

From actionable data insights to automation and increasingly powerful AI agents, technology is changing how facilities managers take care of their estates – on site as well as remotely.

In the white paper, JLA explores how FMs expect to rely more on analytics to drive efficiencies, and the ways in which AI-powered systems could well automate daily tasks while helping to boost productivity.

What’s your FM strategy for the next five years? The Road to 2030 offers critical insight and practical steps to help you make better decisions on sustainability, hybrid working, automation, AI, and more.
