The Spoils of Cleaning
Cleaning operatives working on Cordant Group's contract with Stagecoach have uncovered shocking items left by bus passengers, according to a list compiled by a lucky (and, arguably, unlucky) member of staff.
If the discovery of a full deep fat fryer, used nappies and a flag stepped in human excrement on buses queued for cleaning at Stagecoach's London depot weren't sufficient to raise eyebrows (or turn stomachs), a brown envelope with £300,000 in used bank on a bus in a Glasgow depot, must surely have elicited comment.
The finder who, like any conscientious cleaning operative, reported the haul to the police, has now compiled a list that includes his, as well as other spoils reported by colleagues working on the Stagecoach contract.
"The Cordant Cleaning Top List of Suspect Items Discovered on Buses in London and Glasgow"
1) Used tampon dangling on a handrail
2) £300,000 in used bank notes
3) Large animal heart
4) Human excrement with a flag stuck in
5) Used sex toys
6) Positive pregnancy test
7) Vomit containing false teeth
8) Full deep fat fryer
9) Dirty knickers
10) Soiled nappies
Notwithstanding the questionable tastes, customs and habits of certain bus users, Cordant Cleaning boss, Guy Pakenham, says his colleagues remain professional and take everything they encounter in their stride:
"More often than not, I’m left shocked when my team tell me about the disgusting things they have to get rid of when cleaning buses up and down the UK. However, I can only praise their dedication and good humour, they don’t seem to be fazed by anything.
"Thankfully our staff are are fully trained and equipped to deal with cleaning hazards like these - but we can only urge passengers that next time they defecate on the floor of a bus, or throw up their own false teeth, please remember to take all of your items with you."
