IFMA Foundation Scholarship Program
Industry & Regulatory News, Training & Education, EMEA, Americas, Talent
The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) is accepting applications for its annual scholarship program from students of facility management and related disciplines worldwide.
The program which was launched by the IFMA Foundation in 1991 with support from industry sponsors, the association's national chapters, and the wider facilities management community, has awarded some $1.7 million (£1.3 million) of education grants to more than 500 students and professionals.
Individual scholarships range in value from US $1,500 to US $10,000 and are awarded undergraduate (2-year and 4-year) and graduate students enrolled in facility management or FM related programs (FM related programs include, but are not limited to, construction management, architecture, interior design and some engineering disciplines).
In addition to the scholarship value, recipients also receive fully funded travel, accommodations, meals and registration to attend IFMA's World Workplace Conference & Expo, where they can network with the FM industry’s leading professionals.
Winning recipients are also divided into teams to participate in the ‘IGNITE FM! Student Challenge’, with each team tasked with solving a complex FM problem and then asked to present their solution to an audience. The judging is carried out by FM professionals and the winning team receives a financial prize as well as recognition of their presentation.
Former recipient Devin Shackelford, a student of Construction Management at Kennesaw State University, says:
"Had it not been for the IFMA Foundation’s Scholarship program and ‘Ignite FM! Student Challenge’ at World Workplace, I would not have the job that I have now. I was fortunate enough to have people from Sodexo witness and judge my presentation.
"Fortunately, the judges were impressed with my skills and abilities and offered me a position as an Operations Support Specialist for their Walgreens portfolio in charge of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems."
