Coming to the Rescue of a Scout Hut

Company News, Corporate Social Responsibility, EMEA

BAM Construction, Dortech Maintenance and Senior Architectural Systems have been involved in a charitable project to install new fire doors at the 1st Rugeley Scout Hut in Staffordshire.

The building, which is operated by the 1st Rugeley Scout Group, hosts multiple activities for 43 scouts, cubs, beavers and leaders but failed to meet current fire regulations as its entrance area and fire doors were showing signs of wear-and-tear.

Dortech Group’s managing director, James Sutherland, explains:

"We were approached by Phill Williams at BAM Construction who are our customers, and decided we had to help after seen pictures of the old doors as they were falling to pieces!"

"It was a great community cause and we reached out to our friends at Senior Architectural Systems who supplied materials free of charge.

"Our team then set to work installing the new doors and making the site safe."

Phill Williams adds:

"The hut was very dated and hadn’t had any renovations for years.

"There were also complaints about the old timber doors posing a safety hazard since they blew open in the wind and were even at risk of coming off completely.

"The old doors also opened inwards presenting a fire risk but now open outwards which is better for security, insulation and soundproofing."

Scout group leader, Pauline Holmes, has supported the 1st Rugeley Scout Group for over 40 years with husband, John. She says everyone is delighted with the generosity they have received, and adds the building's modernisation will help to increase Scout numbers over the coming year.
