Signatories to the pledge additionally agree to adopt the Food Waste Reduction Roadmap which has been developed by the food industry in conjunction with The Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD) and resource efficiency charity, The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), with the aim of encouraging at least half of the 125 largest food businesses in the country to measure, report and act on food waste by 2019.

The pledge also includes a commitment to embrace a Food Conversation week of action in November 2019.

Commenting on the development, Compass Group UK & Ireland managing director, Chris Garside, said:

"We are delighted to be a signatory of the Government’s Stop Food Waste pledge.

"As the UK’s largest food and support services provider, we not only have a responsibility but also an opportunity to make a real difference in the fight against food waste, and tackling food waste sits at the forefront of our sustainability agenda."
