MetroConnect presents Facilities Contracted Maintenance Services Recruitment & Outreach Event – Gateway HQ Decorative Fountain Maintenance

Metro is seeking a qualified and licensed contractor to provide decorative water fountain maintenance services for Metro Headquarters at Union Station East. There are 5 decorative fountains on the property. The fountains should be cleaned of debris, trash, and basins scrubbed at water lines. Any coins should be collected. Water health is to be checked and monitored with the correct amount of chemicals added on a frequency to be specified in the official contract documents. All fountain equipment should be backwashed and inspected for proper operation and efficiency. The services to each fountain shall be maintained at a frequency level stated within the Schedule of Quantities and Prices Form within this document. The scope includes as needed electrical or plumbing repair services required on a task order basis.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) provides public transit services to Los Angeles (LA) County through its Metro transit system.

The five Metro water features are described below:

1. Arroyo Fountain

Clad in Limestone, this primary water feature serves as the centerpiece for the Patsaouras Transit Plaza. From Plaza level (elev. 295’) to its top (elev. 324’) the fountain measures 29’ high and includes 8 basins and 15 bronze Hydrel lights. Built around an elevator shaft between Plaza and P1 levels (elev. 280’), the lower section includes 11 basins, with 10 lights. The last basin spills into a large 12” deep pool with 3 additional lights under a glass bridge. There is an equipment room on the P2 Parking level that supports this unit.

2. City of Dreams, River of History

Located in the P1 East Portal Passenger Concourse, this water feature integrates passenger seating with Metro public art. The water feature is 20’ long, designed to look like a river-bed and fed on both ends by recirculating water. There are artifacts built into the basin. The equipment that supports this unit, sits under a manhole cover at one end.

3. Paseo Chavez Upper

Located along Paseo Cesar Chavez, on the east side of Metro Headquarters is another fountain integrated with Metro public art. The piece is a ceramic tiled wall cascade that empties into a small pool. There are lights inside the pool. Fountain pump equipment is in the P2 parking level cage.

4. Paseo Chavez Middle

The center water feature along Paseo Cesar Chavez is a 2’ deep oval shaped pool. Fed by a center ceramic art tiled tower, this unit includes 4 lights. Equipment located in P2 parking level cage.

5. Paseo Chavez Lower

The last water feature along Paseo Chavez is a 15’ long cascade art-piece. Water fed from a source at one end cascades through a series of shallow water basins. At the end of the unit is a smaller basin fed by a short pipe. This feature also integrates public seating, ceramic tiling, and decorative illuminated pieces. The equipment is also located in the P2 parking level cage.
